The Different Types of Surveillance Cameras

    Brooke Coin asked:

The popularity of video surveillance cameras today are on the rise. Especially in the United States and United Kingdom wherein both were victims of terrorist attacks in September 11, 2001 and July 7 in respectively, surveillance cameras are used more than ever for security in public places. However, there are some people who are opposed to the use of surveillance cameras saying that they can violate the people’s rights to privacy. This, however is countered by those promoting the use of video surveillance against crime that when it comes to public safety and person’s privacy, public safety usually wins.

Today, due to different technological advancements, video surveillance cameras are better than ever and can now be used with computers for more complex situations. These surveillance cameras are now more efficient tools for their purposes which are:

    ·         Crime Prevention purposes- video surveillance cameras are invaluable to crime prevention as was the case in the July 7 London Underground bombings where a video surveillance camera was able to capture the suspects image.

    ·         Traffic Safety- Using video surveillance cameras around road networks will give operators and emergency units to be able to detect traffic congestions and accidents.

    ·         Industrial Safety- There are industrial processes which need to be observed however causes conditions that are uncomfortable or even deadly to humans. Using surveillance cameras would allow workers to observe the process from a safe distance

    ·         Home Safety- Today, surveillance cameras are also available to any consumer who would want to protect themselves and their families or possessions.

With the different purposes of surveillance cameras, there is also a need for different types of these cameras in order to accomplish certain purposes.

Wireless video surveillance cameras are some of the most common surveillance tools there is both for home and small offices. They are fairly easy to install, does not require complex wiring and the cameras can be replaced in any position or location since it is not wired.

The opposite of the former are the wired video surveillance cameras. These surveillance cameras are used for permanent installations and broadcasts through a wire. This is the ideal camera for a single location which the user does not intend to change. However, installing this type of video camera may need help from a professional.

Next are the fake video surveillance cameras. This surveillance camera is as it says, it is a fake camera. It is not a decoration however, but is intended to trick people into thinking that they are being watched. It is an inexpensive option; the downside however is that if anything happens the user does not have any record of it.

Then there are the hidden or covert video surveillance cameras which can be hidden inside plant pots, toys or everyday household objects or decorations. It is useful for those who do not want anyone to know that they are being watched.

Last on the list are the night vision video surveillance cameras. These are specialized cameras for dark or dim lighted locations.

Ip Camera Surveillance for Vacation Homes

    Wes Fernley asked:

    Copyright (c) 2009 Wes Fernley

Because vacation homes are only occupied while on vacation, they go a large part of the year without being used. This means that they need some sort of protection while you are not there. This protection can deter break-ins, vandalism, and theft. The ideal solution for this is a surveillance installation of IP camera products. An IP camera is a security camera that can be remotely accessed from over the Internet, hence the letters “IP,” which stands for “Internet Protocol.” You can sit at home and keep an eye on your vacation home. You can even pan, zoom, and tilt the camera from your home computer so that you can see what is going on. All video is in real-time and is accessible via most popular web browsers. This is a great way to keep your vacation home safe.

Benefits of Vacation Home IP Camera Surveillance

    - Easy installation - Installation is very easy. You don’t have to use power tools and there is no need for technicians. All you have to do is hook up the cameras and access them through your computer by logging into the network.

    - Monitor from anywhere - The camera has its own network that enables it to transmit the footage over the Internet. The connection is secure and allows you to check up on your vacation home whenever you want to and from anywhere in the world. You can even invest in IP surveillance cameras that detect motion without the need of additional software or hardware. You can receive an email or SMS message if motion is detected. This allows you to be monitoring the home 24/7 without the need to always be watching the recorded video.

    - Prevent theft and vandalism - If your security cameras are seen, there should be no problem preventing theft. If someone robs or vandalizes your property, the security cameras can identify they culprit. They also work well to deter intruders. The decision to have the cameras hidden or visible should be decided before installing the system.

Configuration of Your Vacation Home Surveillance System

No two vacation homes are alike, which means the configuration is not going to be the same for two homes. Here are some things to consider when it comes to the configuration of your system:

    - What is your biggest security threat?

    - Does the neighborhood contribute any type of security?

    - Have others in your neighborhood been robbed?

    - Is your vacation home susceptible to break-ins?

    Setting Up Your Cameras

    - Make sure you place your cameras near doors so that you can see if anyone enters your home.

    - Monitor any valuables.

    - If there are any valuables in the garage or storage building, make sure those areas are watched as well.

    - Decide if you want the cameras to be seen. This may stop some thieves from breaking in. The other option is hiding the cameras where they have a good chance of getting a clear shot of the intruders face.

How to Choose the Right Webcam Surveillance Software?

    Monty asked:

Many people want to have some kind of spy equipment for better home security. However, besides wireless spy cameras, VCR or DVR systems, there is also special software used to control those surveillance gadgets.

Large companies use professional security systems along with already built in (embedded digital video recorder or PC based DVR soft) spy camera control software. But what about smaller guys? Do you also have to spend thousands of dollars for professional spy security system and software to feel safe and secure in your house? And the answer is not necessarily.

    Webcam for Spying Purposes

You have the ability to use your webcam (connected to your PC) as a surveillance tool. And to control it, all you need is inexpensive webcam surveillance software. As a matter of fact, such software allows you to connect more than one camera. It can display as much as 16 webcam views on your computer screen.

Moreover, webcam surveillance software even allows you to detect motion and start capturing an event within milliseconds. This means that you don’t have to keep your webcam surveillance software turned on all the time in order to secure the area. By using motion detection webcams, you can also save your computer’s HDD (hard drive) space.

You know, video takes a lot of hard drive space. Non stop recording for 24 hours can cost you 1GB of HDD space a day. Well, it depends on the chosen image quality. Lower quality images will require less bandwidth. Also, if you set lower FPS (frames per second), then you’ll save even more HDD space.

But if you have a large HDD (like 160GB or more), then there’s nothing to worry about.

What to Look for in Webcam Surveillance Software?

Before you decide to order webcam surveillance software, there are a couple of things to consider. Let’s take a look at some of the features of webcam software that you should seriously consider, ok.

Audio Capturing - Does your webcam surveillance software have audio capturing option? If not, then you should consider that carefully. If you want to record a conversation, it’s crucial.

Compressed Files - Does your webcam software compress video files? If not, then the space of your HDD might fill up quickly. Try to search for software that compresses the video without losing its quality.

Remote Access - This is very important. If you leave your webcam to record the area, you should have the ability to access your webcam’s view via internet connection. This is very neat function that is absolutely must in webcam software.

Motion Detection - We’ve already mentioned that. Motion detection is also extremely important. You don’t want to record the area when nothing’s going on, right. So make sure that motion sensing is enabled in your software.

Alert Options - Does the webcam surveillance software have an alert option? Some webcam software alert when they detect something. They can alert via email or even dial a phone number. You should seek for this feature, because it’s very neat.

Multiple Webcams - Can your surveillance software record a live view from multiple web cameras? 2, 4 or 16? If you want to connect more than one camera to your PC, then multiple webcam support is absolutely must in the software you choose.

Stealth Mode - Does the webcam software run in stealth mode? Stealth mode means that nobody can see if the software is running or not. Not even if they Press “Ctr+Alt+Del” and look at Windows Task Manager!

Look for webcam surveillance software that allows you to do all or at least most of the functions mentioned above. If your software isn’t capable of detecting motion, doesn’t have alert option, doesn’t have audio recording options, then search for a better solution.

    In Conclusion

Webcam software (for spying or home protection purposes) combined with a few inexpensive webcams, can definitely serve as a basic home security system. You can put your webcams in the most important places and have your PC to record each camera’s view. And if motion sensors detect something unusual, they can alert you via email or phone.

However, if you’re really looking for quality and all-in-one solution for professional home protection, then a more powerful DVR security system with multiple spy cameras could be your best shot. Such systems cost over thousand dollars, but they’re ideal for quality home or office protection.

MINNESOTA rental security deposit questions on a foreclosed home. PLEASE HELP?

    ☆★☆★☆★ ℜ∅✗ϒ ☆★☆★ ★☆ asked:

    Hi,
    I need some assistance ..

Can anyone help me with information about a security deposit on a foreclosed home?

    Heres a brief rundown..
Rented a foreclosed home for 5 1/2 months (knew it was a foreclosure)
Paid rent on time each month and in full.
Cleaned the home before and after moving.
It states that in MN if the home was foreclosed the owner had 60 days to return deposit to tenant or to the bank, it has been like 6 months.
She said the home was dirty and spent about 2 hours cleaning and doing various things.
I also requested the detailed list of the deposit break down and I finally got it yesterday (after 6 months) but it doesnt have a dollar amount, just spent 15 mins cleaning tub for example, that is all thats on there. I asked for receipts and dollar break down she told me to contact her attorney and gave name and number…
I called, the guy knew who she was (thats about it), was AN attorney but not hers and told me he told her not to give out his information since he was not her attorney he just knew of her..
So then I contacted her in email and said I would work with her and she offered me $50 which is absolutely offensive!

If her withholding my security deposit was intentional and malicious or in bad faith am I able to get more.. like treble damages? I read something and I cannot find it now that I thought said that.

I am planning on taking her to court but I want to be able to sue for the maximum amount possible.

    Can anyone help?

I really cannot afford to hire an attorney, so I will be going to small claims by myself.

Deposit was only $600 and interest was $9
so its only $609, it isnt much I know..
But she doesnt derserve to keep the deposit- it was a security deposit, and the damage she claims is NOT on the move in/ move out list that was performed.
She just wants to keep money, thats why she rented her foreclosed home and received rent but didnt pay the mortgage, then wants to keep my deposit because I think she doesnt have much money

    PLEASE HELP!!

    ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!

AND ANYTHING I CAN REFERENCE BACK TO ALSO!

Thank you sooo much in advance..

If there is a question in your answer Ill add to this and answer or add anything that is asked.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
