  • Elements Of A Video Surveillance System

    Christopher Thomas asked:

Tired of living in fear? Ready to protect your home and family? Want to keep your place of business safe? Then you’re ready for a video surveillance system.

Video surveillance systems are used both at home and in commercial establishments to monitor the movement of people. Also known as closed circuit TV (CCTV), they are used to monitor pathways and insecure areas around homes and to prevent break-ins and intrusions.

A video surveillance system is made up of the following components:

Monitors. These are used to display video information processed by the cameras placed strategically in and around the house. Monitors have better video resolution than standard television receivers. The resolution of a black-and-white CCTV monitor, ranges from 700-1000 lines, whereas color monitors have a resolution of 350-400 lines.

Cameras. These are placed at strategic locations to monitor the movement of suspicious or unknown persons. They send this information to the monitors.

Coaxial cabling. This is used to transport video information from the cameras to the monitors.

Switchers. These are used to hook two or more cameras to a monitor. Advanced switchers allow you to hook up alarm inputs, so that the corresponding camera is targeted and locked when the alarm is activated.

The camera. This is the most important component in any video surveillance system. Great care should be taken when buying it. Some of the points to keep in mind when buying a camera are:

    * How many cameras are needed in order to effectively monitor the exterior and interior of a home?

    * Is there a need for both visual and audio inputs?

    * Should the cameras take black-and-white or color images?

    * Should the cameras be wired or wireless?

The placement and installation of cameras is also important. The following points should be kept in mind before installing a camera:

    * The farther back the camera is placed, the larger the area it views will be. However, the clarity will be proportionately reduced.

    * There should be no blind spots caused by boundaries, trees, poles etc.

    * The height at which the camera is placed should be such that it is not easily accessible from the ground.

A user has several options when selecting a home video surveillance system. He or she can have the security cameras connected to a PC, a TV, and/or a VCR. The camera can be wireless or wired. The user also has the option to use spy (hidden) cameras.

The user can install the video surveillance system him- or herself, or can hire a video surveillance and monitoring service to carry out the task.

Video Surveillance: is it Lawful or Not?

    Nahshon Roberts asked:

You can now have your small business and home equipped with video surveillance equipment which was initially just for banks, airports, and casinos. A lot of people are searching for highly modern and state-fo-the-art video surveillance facilities for their small business and home.

New and better video surveillance cameras can be simply hidden inside clocks, plants, teddy bears, and even wall paintings. Video surveillance systems have made probable for you to increase the security and protection of your home. Video surveillance also allows you to observe your kids especially when you are in a different place. Whilst you are away from home, wireless nanny cams allow you to check your nanny’s performance to guarantee you that your kids are being taken care of.

Video surveillance is also installed in small businesses like convenient stores that are open 24 hours a day. Video surveillance tapes can also be used as proof in court, sometimes increasing the chance to convict a crook. Robbers and shoplifters are easily recognized by utilizing these residential and commercial security systems.

Commercial buildings and offices are now equipped with video surveillance. It is useful for the employers to observe their employees using video surveillance.

Usually, video recordings are legal in the U.S. with or without approval. However, video surveillance is illegal when:

    1. Video surveillance systems are used in private locations. The United States have prohibited the use of these equipment in places such as locker rooms, bathrooms, dressing/changing rooms, and motels. Doing a video recording of a person partially or fully ***** is forbidden.

    2. Video surveillance is conducted with audio recording without obtaining permission. You will be charged with eavesdropping and wiretapping if you do a video surveillance with audio. This prohibition also includes recording a conversation that you are not a part of or have not been given consent to do so.

Some states require you to get consent from the person in charge of the area prior to conducting a video surveillance. When illegal activities are promoted by video surveillance, legal problems might arise. Using nanny cameras without the permission of people who are being monitored is strictly against the law in several states. The babysitter has to be notified before conducting the video surveillance. The main reason after all is to ensure the security and prevention of the kid from getting hurt and not to entrap the subject in the act of harassment.

Setting up businesses and homes with video surveillance systems provides owners of businesses and homes with peace of mind. When you plan on putting up a video surveillance equipment, check an attorney or a state or local police to make sure you are complying to laws and regulations prior to the use of video surveillance.

Home Video Surveillance Systems: How Does It Work?

    Abhishek Agarwal asked:

The first video surveillance systems were used by large and medium-sized businesses to monitor for shop-lifting and to keep an eye on cash-handling areas. They have been very effective in identifying and prosecuting criminals. Today, though, more homeowners are installing video surveillance systems. Also called closed circuit TV (CCTV), home video surveillance systems allow homeowners to monitor specific areas and keep an eye on potential thieves, burglars, and vandals.

The monitor is the defining characteristics of video surveillance systems. It receives a live picture from the camera. Normally black and white, the monitors boast higher resolutions than most home televisions, standard resolutions being between 500 and 1000 lines.

Of course, the camera is an important component of the video surveillance system. During installation, the cameras are located strategically outside the home in vulnerable areas like entry ways, porticos, and where landscaping hides access to windows. For a more effective system, cameras should be placed where they are difficult to see. They work continuously, feeding images to the monitor either constantly or at timed intervals.

Coaxial cables tie the video surveillance systems together. Available in many different sizes from local electronics retailers, they transmit the video signal from camera to monitor. These cables come with the video surveillance systems, but there are times when extra longer cables must be purchased for far-away cameras.

Home video surveillance systems also include switchers that allow the user to hook up several cameras to one central monitor. Automated switchers normally cycle through camera stations until it detects movement. When that happens, they lock on the camera where movement has occurred to monitor possible security breaches.

Some home video surveillance systems can be used with VCRs to record the live video feeds. Particularly useful when the family is away on travel, the VCR can record a break-in as it happens, saving a picture of the criminal for later investigation and prosecution. Your home video surveillance system then provides a critical piece of evidence for law enforcement.

Home video surveillance systems make it possible to get the level of security for your home that, in the past, were available only to businesses with large security budgets. Today, they are so affordable that they are used in homes across the country.

If you’ve been looking for a way to better protect your home and belongings, a video surveillance system may be the way to go. One cautionary word: remember that video surveillance systems do not automatically sound an alarm or notify the police or fire department of emergencies when they occur. You’ll still want to have a reliable burglar alarm system. What they will do is provide a permanent image of the crime in progress to make arrest and prosecution more likely.

    Home Security Surveillance Cameras

    yh786515 asked:

Surveillance cameras (wireless or wired) are great for finding out at the door or nosing around the garage, or whose mutt is digging up your vegetable garden. But until lately only the rich and famous could afford security cameras. Now you can purchase and install your own wireless color camera security system for just a few hundred dollars.

Home security cameras can be bought over the Internet from numerous online home security companies. Whenever newcomers to online commerce prepare to make a purchase, they often balk at the idea of giving their credit card information. The idea that someone may be looking in and viewing the transaction is the primary fear.

Buying Home Security Cameras Is Safe

Buying home security cameras online is not a risky thing to do. However, it should be said that online deception does exist. That’s why it is vital to check what type of payment processing technology a retailer employs and any other cyber-security features.

If a customer is interested in video surveillance systems or miniature spy cameras, any of these home security cameras can be bought online safely using the right web site. Software that encrypts your credit card and personal information is a good bet. That’s because this technology makes it impossible for a third party to view.

However, if this still causes qualms, then don’t worry. Any product can still be bought the old-fashioned way, by writing a check or money order. Just fill out the general information on the website, and mail in the payment.
